Going Native with WP7 Mobile Development
Microsoft is the new kid on the block when it comes to mobile smartphones. The Windows Phone 7 operating system is a solid competitor in the mobile space and offers native development using Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight for Windows Phones and all the debugging tools we’ve come to love as Microsoft developers. There are really only 2 good ways to develop for the mobile platform today, one is utilizing traditional web technologies like ASP.Net, Java, JQuery Mobile and Javascript. The other is to develop natively for each device.
In this presentation we’ll focus on what it takes to do native development for the WP7 platform. We’ll walk through some of the technologies that are available to us like Mono, Objective-C, JQuery Mobile, Knockout and Phonegap. We’ll then do a deep dive in WP7 development with a code-along for creating a simple WP7 app and how to deploy it. Finally we will walkthrough some mature solutions and how they integrate with Cloud services like Bing Maps.
